Department classes are the 10 top-level divisions of production work in XPMS, numbered in thousands from 0000 Executive through 9000 Technology. Every discipline, work atom, and budget line rolls up to exactly one class, which lets a phase-by-department coordinate matrix, a GL code structure, and an org chart all share the same spine. The numbering doubles as a cost-center scheme, so finance and operations sort the same way without a mapping table. The ATLVS ecosystem seeds each organization's cost centers from the 10 XPMS department classes and maps position libraries and forecasting lenses onto them.
