Form W-9 is the IRS document a US vendor completes to give the producer their taxpayer ID number and business classification, enabling year-end 1099-NEC issuance for non-employee compensation. Production teams collect W-9s during vendor onboarding and gate payouts on having a current W-9 on file. Foreign vendors complete W-8 series forms instead.
