A submittal is the formal proposal a contractor or vendor sends for review and approval before installing or fabricating: a paint color, a lighting fixture model, a custom-built piece, a finish material. Submittals route through a reviewer, get approved-as-noted, rejected, or approved-with-revisions, and become part of the project record. Strong submittal workflows prevent costly mid-build pivots.
