Comms — short for communications — is the intercom infrastructure that lets show callers, stage managers, lighting, audio, video, and security talk to each other in real time during load-in, show call, and load-out. Comms channels separate by department; the show caller typically sits on a master channel that punches into each department's channel as needed. Wired comms (Clear-Com) and wireless comms (Riedel Bolero) coexist on most large productions.
