Advance (Cash Advance)
Also: float, cash float
A cash advance — in production-finance context — is money paid ahead of a show to cover anticipated expenses: per diem, runner cash, vendor deposits, on-the-fly purchases. Cash advances reconcile against receipts and remaining cash on settlement night. Note: 'advancing' (the pre-event workflow) and 'cash advance' (the finance instrument) are different concepts that share a name — context distinguishes them.
