Atlas vs. Deputy

Compass vs. Deputy: event-production field ops vs. shift scheduling for shift-based businesses.

Deputy does shift-based scheduling well: demand-aware rosters, time clocks, leave, and a deep payroll-integration catalog. What it does not model is a production. There is no gate scan, no credential advance, no incident chain an insurer can read, no punch list, no chain of custody for gear. Compass carries the roster AND the site record, offline-first, on one org-wide store shared with the operator console.

Bottom line
Rostering a cafe, a ward or a store? Deputy is a strong pick. Running crews that build, operate and strike productions? Compass is the field app built for that record.

Where We Win.

The site record, not just the roster

A shift is one row of the story. Compass keeps the incidents, punch items, handovers, custody moves and daily logs on the same org record the console and portal read.

Built for no-signal days

Offline-first isn't a mode, it's the architecture: punches queue, scans stay sub-100ms at the gate, and everything replays with provenance when the signal returns.

Crew aren't seats

Per-org pricing means a 400-person load-in week costs what a 40-person week costs. Per-user pricing punishes exactly the surge a production is.

When Deputy Wins.

We're not the right call for every room. These are the cases where they are.

  • You run a retail, hospitality or care roster where demand-forecast auto-scheduling and award/compliance pay-rule libraries are the daily job. That is Deputy's home turf and it is deep there.
  • Your payroll depends on one of Deputy's many published payroll integrations and you want zero-touch export.

Migration Path.

For teams moving from Deputy.

  1. Export Deputy people, shifts and timesheets as CSV; they map to Compass crew, shifts and time entries
  2. Most production orgs cut over between seasons: run the last payroll cycle out of Deputy while the new season advances in Compass

vs. Deputy · FAQ

Does Compass do time clocks and schedules like Deputy?
Yes: shifts, punches with geofenced zones, timesheets with manager review, time off, and swaps. The difference is everything around the shift: the same app carries incidents, punch lists, custody and the gate.
Can crew use Compass without corporate email?
Yes. Crew join an existing organization by invite or org code. Organizations themselves are created and configured in Legend on the web, so the org a crew member joins is already set up.

Atlas Is Open.
